The Rolls Royce of Australian Jazz - Sydney Morning Herald

The premier large ensemble in Australian Jazz - and one of the finest anywhere! - The Australian

As always, the virtuosity and musicianship are peerless - The Age, Melbourne

Ten Part Invention was created by drummer John Pochée to be a flexible medium for Australian jazz composers and improvisers.

At it's 1986 Adelaide Festival debut, both the audience and the players themselves agreed that a special feeling was generated immediately.  Every member is a brilliant, highly individual soloist who has built a reputation in both mainstream and contemporary Australian jazz, yet they play together without suppressing individual personalities.  You hear each voice in the ensembles and that gives the band its special colour.

Their innovative approach and original compositions have been an inspiration to the Australian contemporary jazz scene, their performances always colourful, thrilling and adventurous.

In 2004, they toured to the USA at the invitation of the Chicago Jazz Festival where they received a standing ovation and critical acclaim. The group then went on to perform at Clubs and Universities as well as a concert at the John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts in Washington DC. (you can view this concert on our Media page)

The members of Ten Part Invention constitute a substantial part of Australian modern jazz history and continue to create music that is unique, committed, and forward looking.
